Another World Is Possible

Posted on June 24, 2026 - June 24, 2026 by emberprop

The future is canceled.

Or, at least, that’s the lie that the fascists are selling us.

The most effective piece of propaganda that the regime uses against us is the idea that it is futile to resist, that it is impossible to exist without them, that there is no other way forward for our lives but to submit to their whims. We may think that we have no future. That it is worthless to even dream of a world outside of authoritarian capitalist structure.

Academics call this idea Capitalist Realism. The idea that there exists no other economic system, that we are doomed to experience the death of capitalism and therefore the death of us, as if the way the United States functions represents the entirety of the possibility of human existence (this too, is American Exceptionalism).

But that simply isn’t true. All over the world, people have already done what we consider impossible.

Like how in early 2026, the people of Nepal, led by students from Gen Z, staged a revolution and formed paths to replace their entire government within three days.1

Like how the people of Bolivia, after a CIA coup that saw their democratically elected socialist government overturned, regained control of their electoral process and beat back US imperialism.2

Like how Syrian anarchists set up local councils to fulfill administrative duties to care for people outside of the state3, and how the YPG and YPJ militants of Rojava became the most effective fighters against the Islamic State.4

Like how the Zapatistas were able to liberate indigenous communities in Chiapas, and build systems of healthcare and education completely autonomously from state control.5

Even in the United States, people do in fact break free from the restraints of capitalism to exist outside of it.

Like how the Twin Cities in so-called Minnesota successfully executed a general strike that had 70,000 – 100,000 people in the street and shut down over 1000 businesses in January of 2026.6

Like how people are realizing that everything that has ever been done has been done by other people, and so have started making medicine to be distributed at the community level without insurance companies getting in the way.7, 8, 9

Like how Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) is literally the backbone of technological innovation, and is created and maintained by people volunteering their time because they simply believe that the projects they are working on should exist.10 95% of the top 1,000,000 website servers in the world run on Linux, a FOSS operating system that cannot be copyrighted or controlled by government or private enterprise.11

Like how the Black Panthers were able to create distribution structures to feed over 20,000 in the first year of their free food program, proving that Mutual Aid can in fact provide for people that the government is trying to starve.12

The reason that any of us are here and able to do what we do is because the people before us, who were arguably living under worse conditions than we’ve ever experienced, decided that their present was not going to be their future. They dreamed of liberation, they dreamed of equality, they dreamed of autonomy, even when those ideals seemed out of reach, and then they fucking fought for that beautiful idea. But they had to conceive of what they were fighting for first.

When we dare to dream of a better world, we might surprise ourselves with what we can accomplish. It seems like the new form of American Exceptionalism is the idea that anyone in the world can realize their revolutionary capacity. That is, everyone except us. Everyone except you, even.

Why? Why do you believe that? Have you actually thought about it, or do you just blindly accept a future of perpetual suffering because that’s the easy thing to do? Self-defeatism salting the earth before you even try to plant the seeds of change. Is that really all you believe yourself capable of?

Well, we have more faith in you than that. You can conceive of a better future. In fact, we fucking dare you. We don’t think the fascists have completely taken away your ability to dream just yet.

What does a beautiful future look like to you? Is there music? Are there gardens? What is being grown there? What do the homes look like? What do people do for fun? What does transportation look like? How do conflicts get resolved? Are there lots and lots of police? Or are other modes of justice available? Are people starving, or are they fed? Are people sick, or are they cared for? Are people sleeping in the streets, or do they have beds?

Yes, we are asking you to dream of utopia. And, when we ask you to dream of a better world, we are really asking this question:

What do you value? And what will a world exhibiting those values look like? And what will it take to get there?

We’re already on our way. Come with us, and have a hand in creating the world you would like to see. We need you there.

Another World Is Possible.
