With so much fascist, nihilist, and imperial propaganda being fed into our eyes every second of every day, it is imperative that we introduce dreams of liberation, agitation to action, and questioning of the regime into the public sphere. And with the rise of minimalism as a corporate aesthetic, we’ve got plenty of blank white walls to make beautiful with art and expression!
Our experiences are informed by our environments. Capitalism designs its spaces in a particular way to direct human movement and behavior towards maximizing profit. We know we can take control of those spaces and use them to point people in a different direction. If you’re an anarchist with nothing to do (somehow), or just someone who wants to make an immediate change in the world around them, putting up posters around your city or town is a great start.
Every action is first informed by an idea, so let’s introduce some fresh ideas into the public consciousness. The Overton Window didn’t shift so far to the right just by itself, it took conservative and alt-right talking heads to keep repeating the exact same bullshit for years to start shifting public opinion. We can shift that back, or even shift it to something entirely new, but only if we’re visible. We gotta start having these conversations, and we must actually put our ideas into the world. Physically, unable to be ignored, and ungovernable. Every sticker, every poster, every drop of spray paint is a spit in the face of those that would try to control every facet of our lives. It is a reminder that there are people with bravery in their hearts, and that not every criminal gets caught.
We can, and will, assert our existence in the world around us, and shall compel others to do the same. You’ll find links to both color and black and white versions below to print out yourself. ACTIVATE made a great zine about wheat pasting and other distro methods that you can find here if you need an idea of how to get started. They may own the billboards and the ad space, but a deed can’t stop us from pasting over a wall!
